Ghost Taskbar
20 Answers
Every time I boot up the computer I get a previous taskbar from 2016 on the screen. It's only there till the computer is fully booted then everything is as it should be.
I believe it's from when I upgraded from version 8 to 8.1, or even from 8.1 to windows 10.
It's not a problem and it doesn't bother me, I'm just wondering if anyone else has this happen to them?

Plus have you tried unpinning the icons that you don't use. Right click the icon and select "unpin from taskbar" from the drop in menu.
That is strange. As if it is remembering somewhere a past boot up. Are you using the same browser that the "old" taskbar is pinned on? If so have you tried stopping that browser or even uninstalling it? Of course if it is IE you cannot but you could try if it is in chrome or firefox. I see that you are running W10 and on 8 and 8:1 possibly using IE, and now Edge on 10. Can I ask which is your browser of choice that the lappie settles on after boot up?
Hmm I suspect that somewhere either Edge(the W10 new browser) or IE(which you cannot uninstall) are performing a ghost boot up until opera takes command. You could try going into your "apps" list in settings and see if there is a tile or programme listed for either of them or even have a look in your default apps again in settings under the apps, default apps settings and check that you have opera as your designated default web browser.
Just arrived today, Togo. Haven't opened the package yet (have you ever tried opening a package from Amazon without the aid of Fireman's tools?) The current one is behaving itself at the moment. I just have to remember that if I'm going to be away from the screen for any length of time to shut down.
It is not listed as an app ILA. Explorer is written into the W10 programme. You could I suppose have a quick look at Edge to see if it is active or running and turn it off. But this is just a flight of fancy I wonder whether what you are indeed seeing is IE, showing as part of the W10 boot up and then opera taking over when the boot is sufficiently advanced for it to do so. I run edge, but have chrome as a back up in case it ever goes down( browsers can) so that is what my appliances boot up in. It may be that the W10 system somehow recognises edge as the IE coupled browser so doesn't show it. When I have time I may set my lappie to boot up in Chrome just to see whether I get the same. I may also have a look through the forums and see if there is anything to report.
Had a quick look ILA. The issue has come up in various forms but not exactly like yours in the Microsoft forums. Some of the "fixes" are pretty techie such as resetting notification area icons in the registry that I think I would baulk at if it is not a "crucial" issue. You could have a look in Settings, Personalisation, Taskbar, and scroll down to "select which icons appear on taskbar". You could disable (toggle switch) "Always show an icon in notification area" and try toggling on individual icons that you know you use and are current. If you want the link for the registry settings I can post it, even if it is only to read through. I am cautious about posting links containing action tips that may cause more trouble that folk are having now, and if I do so I will post a heads up warning.
Are you psychic, along with your other talents, ILA? I have had an email this morning from Microsoft, as part of the Windows insider feedback and preview, regarding the soon to be New Redstone(RS5) version of W10 Insider Preview build that is available to participants. Now, I tend to wait a little while for a more stable build before letting it run but I have been looking at some of the features and changes being made to address "issues" and a paragraph caught my eye.
