Car Breakdown Cover
4 Answers
Does anyone have any experience of organisations offering car breakdown cover?
I would appreciate any thoughts on the following in relation to the RAC and AA:
Cost of cover / services offered,
Customer service and
How good at fixing or sorting a breakdown a particular organisation was.
I would also appreciate recommendations from personal experience on other breakdown companies such as Green Flag
Thanks

Hard to comment on how competitive their prices are in general, as they seem to vary (as they should) with the age of your vehicle and your callout record - but I always seemed to get a good deal.
I was in the back end of nowhere (Staffs Peak District) when I called them for help with my bike - 30 mins & they were there - about as quick as conceivably possible.
My friend was on the slip road of a major urban motorway in my Saab with a wrecked tyre - 25 mins from call to fixed & moving again.

I currently use the RAC but that's mainly because I get a good deal through my car insurance. Their service is just as good as the AA, who I've also used in the past.
In my 'trade plating' days, delivering cars across the country, the firm I worked for had agreements with both the RAC and the AA to assist at breakdowns. I had to make countess call-outs, with five in the same week once (and with three of those being on the same day, to three different vehicles) and I could never see any real difference in their service.
However I've also used AutoNational Rescue in the past and been satisfied with their services. If I wasn't getting a good price from the RAC through my insurance, that's probably who I'd still be with with now:
