Back to the OP, I admit I was a little surprised to find there was a specific offence of "having a pig untethered and loose on a public highway".

I think the problem stemmed from the fact you should have a licence to move pigs. I suppose that means you have to be careful where you take them. I hope the pig is ok, I'd hate to think it would be put to sleep for that idiots actions.

Actually I agree with the police. The man was drunk, he had a dangerous dog and the pig was running loose, could have caused an accident. I think the pig will be returned to him once he is sober and has been dealt with !
