Well aren’t we getting our Alans in a Brahms. The “savage” comment is meant, in this case, to be TIC

It's boring though. You're not even using it in an ironic way.
Perhaps stick to the side-splitting cockney angle, you are hilarious when you do that.
naomi24

My 08.38 that you says started it:

naomi24
/// THECORBYLOON is also wrong to drag me into his savage accusations. ///

This wasn't intended to be a slight on you, it was just a follow on from your previous post.

Your rather sharp and aggressive answer for no reason at all, was what really started it.

/// aog, Don't tell me - tell him - ///
She's right.
What is the point of whinging to naomi?

You are the one who started all this 'savage' business AOG...why do you think that shouldn't be mentioned?
-Talbot-

/// You are the one who started all this 'savage' business AOG ///

Why is it against Site Rules to use a word that fits it's description.

I can not be held responsible if someone chooses to use it out of context.

I, myself will still call a dog that savages a youngster, a SAVAGE dog.
I think "Savage" is a pretty strong word to use in this instance and the TIC intention isn't obvious here. But I'm not in the business of removing opinions I don't agree with, otherwise a lot more would have been removed from the site by now! As for name calling being against the Site Rules, that generally applies to members being abusive towards each other. Hope that clears some things up.
/// What is the point of whinging to naomi? ///

Incidentally I wasn't whinging to naomi, I posted it as a follow on to naomi's post.

Why do I have to explain every action that I take or every headline I choose to use?

Am I wrong in thinking that some of you are really adults with a certain amount of knowledge?

Because at times, I have reason to doubt it.

AB Ed, there is a big difference between having an opinion and calling non-white folk savages.

There are other offensive words folk can use to describe black folk for example and they would soon be removed.

In my opinion, the word "savage" is being used in a racist way and others appear to be using it in the same context.

I have no problem with folk expressing their opinions but there is no need to use inflamatory words.
Oh so it only when black persons are called savages is it?

The black guy that has just ploughed into those innocent people in London, would it be in order to call him a savage, since he has carried out a 'savage' attack?

/// President Donald Trump has hit out following 'another terrorist attack' in London which he blamed on 'crazed animals'. ///

Is that better?
THECORBYLOON

/// I have no problem with folk expressing their opinions but there is no need to use inflamatory
words. ///

What such as, Racist, Islamophobic, Xenophobic, Nazi, Knuckle-Dragger etc, etc, etc?
AOG - You love using inflammatory terms on AB; it gives you the opportunity to complain loudly later on.

Having read a little more about the stresses and strains under which this Doctor was operating, I have more sympathy with her than when the story first broke.
I swear I remember the whole 'savage' controversy happened right when I first joined AB. Which was 12 years ago.

It does sometimes come across a bit like people shoe-horn it into as many thread titles as possible now, desperate for someone somewhere to take some form of issue with it. "Go on, chastise me, I haven't had a good rant about political correctness for a whole twenty minutes!"
Sad for everyone involved. She made a mistake due to tiredness, lack of information and appropriate support. There was no deliberate ill intent and no reason to think she won't be a competent medic in the future. Senior doctors are better at hiding their mistakes, hospitals have more invested in them. She is not a savage though.
One definition of a savage -

'A brutal or vicious person'

How does that description , fit this doctor , TTT ?
I think 'savage' is too strong a word to use, BUT her negligence did cause the death of a Mum and Dad's beloved little boy and I wouldn't call that simply a 'mistake'. No, I wouldn't like to be treated by her.

Also, another point. I name called someone on here some time back who wasn't a member of AB, rather someone in the news who had acted like a prat and my comment was removed. I notice the Ed says only name calling amongst abers will be removed - Baffled !!!
ANOTHEOLDGIT, in my opinion, your use of the word "savage" harks back to an era when many folk believed that those in Africa were not educated, they were not civilised and were beneath them.

They believed the White Man would educate them, convert them to Christianity and civilize them.

They'd never be more than third- or second-class citizens but my God, they should be grateful.

In my opinion, you look down upon non-white folk and see unfairness any time you get a sniff of one of them gaining an advantage.
