It's not the money, it's the time spent faffing about. Last night, I rang Sainsbury's car insurance company and was holding on the phone so long that the battery on the phone emptied and I was cut off.

Tried again this morning and they wouldn't honour the price quoted on the Money Supermarket site. It was now void, they said. I then said, I'll find another insurance company then, goodbye.

Gets on my flippin' nerves it does.

always try Direct Line, they don't appear on comparison sites but are usually cheapest for me (not this year, Halifax undercut them).

I also tried Saga, only to find that their price promise was worthless, margarettom.

I was just looking at the 2019 calendars in WH Smith today, jj. And Selfridges opened their Xmas department a couple of weeks ago.

When you buy a car all these things can come together. I bought a car in the new year sale ince and everything ran out on 31 Dec which meant dealing with all of this at Christmas.

What I did was to sacrifice a month on the MOT and went in for it at the end of November and had a service while I was there. I did a 6 month road tax for one year which puts that into June just leaving the car ins for a night on the compare sites in December.
