Still struggling. 10a Tie worn by a French, clownish servant: ?a?n?e - it could be un in the middle for "a French", but still can't get anywhere. 21a Templar author's plot against your majesty backfired - could it be Charteris (author of the Saint novels)? can't work out the rest of it though.
