Rambo the hamster
6 Answers
My son badgered me for ages to let him have a pet so I caved in and got him a hamster. Its a lovely white fluffy one with red eyes, although I would say its MY hamster(novelty worn off and all that). He is called Rambo as he climbs out of his run/enclosure no problem.Apart from usual food we treat him with a few raisins and a piece of lettuce daily.Any other salad or veg/fruit he is allowed ???

My wife and I 'inherited' a hamster in much the same way and I'm sure there are many thousands more in the same boat. I've found the best thing is to simply try him with most new foods brought into the house - they certainly turn their noses up at things they don't like. Our hamster loves fresh cherries - won't eat strawberries - and is very fond of cornflakes (not too many because of the salt content). I've also heard that they can be fed very small amounts of cooked meat - though not too much because it can rot in their cheek pouches - but I've been very wary of trying this but certainly go ahead and enjoy trying most things, I'm sure your hamster will appreciate a little more variety in his diet.
