Just done another 6 hour stint at the foodbank...this is my 4th week.
Stuck in the warehouse again despite having been asked to come in today specifically to cover for a van driver that's off.
I originally volunteered for the foodbank as a van driver, but not minding a bit of work in the warehouse, as and when.
Did 2 days last week as drivers mate (ostensibly to 'get used to the routes')
Just been asked if Im still OK to work Wednesday and Thursday.....as drivers mate!
Ive read many posts in the past on here about charities taking the pee....think this might be another one.
Hope not, as I have enjoyed the last month but Im not doing what I signed up for (Driving)
Apart from a 10 minute drive in the van with one of the paid workers (to assess my driving skills....and told 10/10) Im stuck doing something that I really havnt signed up for.
I'll give it another couple of weeks and if nothing changes I'm jacking it in. Feel like Im been taken for a for a mug at times.
Ive enjoyed my time in the warehouse and everyone there is great to be around (special needs people are in at times etc) but not what I volunteered for.
If you get taken on as a driver will this mean that you have to load and unload the vans? If so it won't help your bad back. Why don't you try something else?
I thought partly you were trying to build up your job chances by having some recent experience on your CV. No matter how rubbish if that still applies I would stick it out. If not then maybe look to help elsewhere.
I think it's fair enough to be ticked off if someone says they want a driver and you end up being a cart horse instead, but the thing to do is go through the proper channels and see if you can be put on drivers duty only. Also try not to let one thing spill over into another. I've got some very lovely things going on but also some very bad things going on, if I let the bad dominate how I feel I'd end up ranting and never stop, so try to compartmentalise things if you can x
I'll make this the last post of the night and thanks to all who contributed....
My head is up my arris, Im trying to get back into normal life, I really am. But beginning to think that Im been taken for a tw * t
Anything to get 'clients' (off the books...)
I'll give anything a try but sick of been taken for a mug. Ill give it all another couple of weeks, tops, then stuff it all.
Sorry but there is a bit to much 'enabling' here. You can't volunteer for something then stromp about telling them what you will and will not do! Same with your decorating. Go legit and tell HMRC you are self employed get some flyers out and get going! There are people out there less eloquent, less intelligent, making livings & you can do it too. You are not a victim, you are in control of your life. Just do it. Everyone has bad days.

Hate to say it, but that's very true. We have an absolute devil of a time getting volunteers for *what we NEED them for*. Too many come along...often very helpful and promising people...who quit because the job is not what they want or expect. It's voluntary-yes...and that often means doing what's needed most. We are desperate for good people...people who are helpful and do everything they can to be useful. It makes my day so much easier...a good volunteer is hard to find.
Nailit, maybe you are doing such a great job in the warehouse that they are reluctant to move you on.
Look for the positives, whats the warehouse short of. Ask if you can go collect more stock. Find a reason to drive out everyday you work & make yourself valued. Keep at it & you will win.
