I always understood that the AZED crossword requiring a clue replacement only occurred in the first issue of the month. Am I mistaken in thinking that it seems to be happening more often that that?
The Azed 'competition year' (currently September to August) consists of 13 clue writing challenges - one on the first Sunday of each month and one at Christmas. Occasionally the puzzles published online erroneously state that a clue replacement is required, usually on the second Sunday of the month when the previous week's instruction has not been removed, so it may seem as though the clue writing competitions have become more numerous, but they haven't really!
