If I'd have dropped littler my parents would have drop kicked me into the middle of next week. My ex and I told a bunch of 14 or 15 yar olds to pick up the crap they'd strewn all over the Grange and they had a massive attitude, I thought for one minute it was going to turn really nasty. Some people just have no manners. Period.
I followed a truck home a few months ago and the driver was throwing things out of the window into the road for around 4 miles. He was obviously eating a mcDonalds while driving and the rubbish was going out of the window. . I got his reg and phoned the company and reported him. Littering is a disgrace. There is no excuse for dropping your discarded items but it seems today no one cares anymore.
People throwing things out of car windows seems to be a big problem. And not just in this country either. I was reading about the amount of pop up tents that are left behind at music festivals. People think that if they leave their tent behind it will be donated to a homeless charity but that is not the case.
I belong to a litter picking group. We meet on the first Saturday of the month which means that I can't get there very often due to my work schedule. Most of the stuff that we pick up is takeaway - bottles, food boxes etc. There are a heck of a lot of cigarette butts that I don't pick up because I would be there all day. We often get nice comments from local people as regards our efforts. The stuff that is dumped on the beaches and parks after a bank holiday/weekend is on another level though
Didn't read the article but littering is getting worse IMA. I've being catching local bus a lot recently. Sometimes, just after the local school finishes, pupils troop into local convenience store to stock up, then back to bus stop eating contents and discarding the packaging at their feet.
Theres a bin with in 5 metres and if you remind them of this, normally just get a blank stare or abuse, but just occasionally, kids do respond , a group 2 or 3. But with larger group,the boys just showing some bravado me thinks.

When I lived in Kettering the corner of the car park I used was beside the little office where undelivered parcels were picked up by the public.
Very often the yard and part of the car park would be littered with the discarded wrappings....usually grey plastic....from a hastily unwrapped parcel.
I would gather these up and if they had a name and address I would put them in an envelope and send to the litter lout.....without a stamp.

Yes, littering is getting a lot worse. When I drive home from work and come off the local A road, there is so much rubbish that has been dumped by the side. The trouble is, you can't just go out with a bag and a litter picker and pick it up. Well you can, but you need an agreement with the council as to the collection of the rubbish as it's not classed as household waste.
