Man (word of familiar address in the Scottish Highlands) + et (sounds like A)
Could it be Mon is dialect for Man in scotland ?
Question Author
Sedge. Isn't mon also a word denoting a Scotsman?
Can't see a parse either but I'd say Monet - as in "hoots mon..." etc...
Question Author
That is what I thought, I will go with Monet. Thanks all
Either would seem to work - Chambers lists man but not mon as a Scottish word.
mon et
et sounds like a
oops, missed sedge at the top
Question Author
I have a Sunday Express reverse dictionary which gives it as Mon.
Yes definitely mon Scottish for man and overhearing a sounds like et.
In Aberdeen a man is referred to as a Mannie (sounds like Manet)
Question Author
I have Monet - mon(Scotsman) +et(sounds like 'a')
