Period Problem
37 Answers
Got my sons girlfriend staying with me at the mo.
My sons just told me that his GF has had a really heavy period for the last 9 days. She's feeling really lethargic/tired.
1) Are there any effective suppliments that she could take to help?
2) Is this anything to see the GP about? (this isn't usual for her)
Shes 26 and has had numerous health problems including treatment for leukemia when she was 14 and more recently a blood clot on the lung.
TIA for any help/advice

She was given some meds to help ease the (excessive) bleeding (don't know what type of meds). It seems (as others have hinted at) that it was all due to changing from a contraceptive implant to a coil and the fact that she was on blood thinners as well.
Thanks again for asking.

Review with admission possibly. For review in A and E and possibly admission for treatment or at least until a specialist team can see her on Monday. I expect they will want to correct her clotting and get what they call a differential blood count which is more detailed and might give them an idea if her leukaemia is doing anything unusual. If it looks very abnormal ( unlikely) they might want to take some bone marrow. But chances are it's just going to be a case of tweaking her blood thinners and slowing the blood loss a bit.
