10p or not 10p, that is the question: ... to dye; to steep: ...
To steep: perchance to bleach: ay, where's the rub;

Think you might need a Brillo pad, Tony ;)

never remembered them being that large
Earlier today (or should that be 'yesterday' now?) I finally got around to starting to clear some of the junk from my attic.

I started with a sports bag full of my football refereeing gear that I've not used for over a quarter of a century. As well as clothing, whistles, linesman's flags, notebooks, etc, I found about half a dozen old 10p pieces. (For a moment I wondered why they were there but then I remembered that there's not much more embarrassing for a ref than having to borrow a coin to toss up with, so I'd obviously made sure that I'd always have a coin handy).

Like you, I'd forgotten just how big they were!
I didn't know Steradent could be used for cleaning coins. Never tried that. I used to leave them in a small amount of brown sauce overnight. That works ok, but don't rub them. If they are worth anything (highly unlikely), rubbing could mark them.

Yes 10srclarion, but least evasive way of removing any surface debris from any artefact is the way to go with any sort of renovation
Phew!
For a minute there I thought you were asking us if we were 10P or bottom....

shoota am i missing something?
Probably it looks like TOP ? ^^^^
If you think florins were big you should have seen half-crowns.
Didn't the replace the old 2 shilling piece, and were the same size.
Question Author
not sure whether or not you are thinking about half a crown (2 and 6 pence) in old money when we had 240 pence to a £1 ?
Question Author
but you might be right
Question Author
jackdaw if you had 2 and a half bob you felt pretty rich lol
I don't know how true this is but I was told this tale many years ago. Some people would go into a pub, ask for a pint, and make a great show of slapping half a crown on the counter. The barmaid would clock this, but while she was pulling the beer the crafty punter would replace the half crown with a florin. The result was that he would get change from 2/6 instead of 2/- so he was 6d to the good.
