Geographically Confused

Just heard a 'Homes under the Hammer' presenter say Suffolk is in the South East of England, on AB we have a member living near Clacton often says they live in the South East

As long as it's South of the Thames Estuary Tony, it's South East.

The so called South East includes London and Essex. Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambs and Lincs are in the East.

The notion that the South East is south of the Thames is clearly wrong and arbitary.
By that logic, anything above London would be in the midlands, which it clearly isn’t.
The London Centric view of the country is very out dated. There are no monsters north of Hatfield.

For the purposes of 'Homes under the Hammer' or anyone else giving a general description for the placement of south Suffolk of Essex, South East England is fine.

Government regions, place them in East of England, but they also place Oxford and Milton Keynes in the SE. For administrative purposes not geographical.
