Radio

I want to buy a radio but when I googled 'radio' there are something like 70 gazillion choices - anyone have any ideas what I should (or shouldn't) be looking for. Would prefer a mains operated one but happy to get one that uses AA batteries. Thank you :)

Fantastic bbit of kit and 20,000 internet radio stations to choose from....we find a new station to like every day....currently listening to The Wireless FM from New Zealand....
Warning...it was a bit pricey, but worth it.

The Government is committed (under a Europe-wide agreement, which has absolutely nothing to do with our EU membership) to switching off FM broadcast transmitters. Indeed, under the original target dates they should already have been switched off by now but, just like the changeover to digital TV, which ran about 10 years behind schedule, the final switch-off date keeps getting pushed back.
So, with that in mind, you shouldn't even be considering any set which hasn't got DAB. The cheapest DAB sets are mono only but it doesn't cost much more to buy a stereo DAB radio, so that's what you ought to be looking for. The Radio Listener's Guide (which is an annual publication for boring nerds like me who're interested in such things) repeatedly put's the 'Pure' range at, or close to, the top of their review ratings. e.g. this might be worth considering:

However I'm a great fan of the Blaupunkt range of radios and this, at only half the price of the Pure model above, is probably what I'd go for myself:
