Washing Machine Cycle Times

A very old but trusted washing machine has given up the ghost and I am searching online for a new one. I know energy efficiency has progressed since I got mine but the 4 or so new ones I've looked at closely have average wash cycle times of 3 or 4 hours?? This is mind-boggling, are they all going to be like this?

no, my Hotpoint washing machine has various cycles, and on NO 9 is for a total of 1 hour. Though i think if i looked at it properly there would be others shorter still. But i don;t change it because i'm lazy, lol

Our cheap and cheerful Indesit does a perfectly fine 'eco wash' in 45 minutes and upwards from there.

Yes but they also have shorter washes. Mine has a quick wash 1hr and a refresh wash which is 20 mins.

I only use a main wash for bedding and towels.

Prudie, I bought a new one last week, and I am horrified. Chose it because it had a Eco setting on a 40 wash. I thought that would be quick and short................No way........it takes 3 hours 40 minutes!!!!!!!!! According to their booklet, this is the most energy efficient cycle to use to wash your clothes. How they work that one out God only knows. Lol

Well so does my current one, it does a daily wash in 30 mins and 40, 50 and 60 take about an hour. but I'm talking brand new machines seem to be listing these kind of times

My trusty Hotpoint has a fast wash on the Eco Cycle which takes about 45 mins. Also has a half load rinse cycle which takes less than half an hour.

mine has washes that go for 3 hours or more, but you should find that there are eco washes that are about an hour.

It does have a quick wash that only takes 30 min, but you can only use it for 3lb of clothes,not a full machine load and it doesn't do a fast spin at the end, you have to set that as a seperate cycle afterwards. The eco wash takes 8lb of clothes.

Looks like I'm going to have to put up with it Sparkles not that I can quite fathom how washing for up to 4 hours is energy saving.

It is strange, the launderette ones only take half hour, home machines seem to take hours.

It'll do a quick wash in 30 minutes (or 37 minutes if you increase the spin to 1200 rpm).

I can't recommend this machine enough .... we've had it a few years now and never had a problem with it :)

Just noticed that my model has been discontinued, but I'm guessing that the newer LG models will be just as good :)

Our Bosch has an Eco quick wash cycle. Depending on temperature selected it can be 15 mins or 20 mins.We usually select a longer cycle of about 1 hour 15minutes. There are other wash cycles that go just over 2 hours.

Our machine has just conked out and we’ve ordered a Grundig from curries, it’s being delivered and installed by them tomorrow.
It has a 30 minute cycle as that’s one of the features I was adamant I wanted. Have a look at it Prudie, I agree it’s quite confusing trying to find a machine to suit. The chap in curries was extremely helpful, he explained everything and answered all our questions.

Most have energy saver, and quick washes , mine has a 45 minute stain remover turbo cycle which is brilliant. It also has a 10 kg capacity which means far fewer washes in a month and an integrated timer.

Our Miele (yes, an arm and a leg!) has washes that range from 20 mins to 2 hr 47 mins "intensive plus"...average ones are about 1hr 30 mins.....and a ten-year warranty!

I was just going to type, exactly what ginge did. The 20 minute wash is a God send.
