Let me say I'm not trying to trivialize anything about this but I think the coverage has been too excessive. It's really sad what happened and we can only wait to see what repercussions this has for Leicester City. But at times this week the coverage has felt almost "Diana like". Are we going to be subject to coverage of a "state funeral" too? I remember the Munich disaster. I was 10 years old. It was headlines for 2 days, then lots of coverage in the local press for quite some time. It had a huge impact in this area. I should imagine something similar now in Leicester. I also noticed that people started laying wreaths and flowers at Leicester City before any announcement of the owners death. Bizarre.

It seems to me that with situations like this, some people can't wait to start enjoying their mourning, encouraged by sentimental mush from the media.

I don't much care what people do with their spare time.
But there's been a big change, re emoting over strangers in this country, since the Lady Di funeral fest.
I feel no shame for saying so.
AB is now similar 're mass mourning strangers .
I don't think that this one is mass mourning on AB, rather a recognition of a man who became special to Leicester at large and also the press have picked up on how the club and city have responded....and that maybe deemed as the mass mourning.

Though God help us on here and generally when her Nibs goes......it will make the wailing wall of Jerusalem look positively tame.
If people wish to pay their respects, then let them do so, but I personally believe that the tragedy has been given a bit too much coverage if you think that most of the country had probably never heard of those involved.
There has rarely been a more perfect and respectful minute's silence than the one that opened the Cardiff-Leicester match. It's hard not to be moved by that.
I agree with you 10C, but it's football and football is always more important than anything else in the whole world doncha know. And 'shame on me', there I've said it before anyone else does !!
I don't think the coverage has been excessive at all. In fact I have heard very little about the incident since it happened last week, although I have been out all day today, so I hope and expect to catch up after todays football news later this evening.
A disaster – a tragedy – but the nationwide coverage since the accident has been way over the top. Like many people I’d never heard of this man so find it very odd that those who fail to join the public displays of grief are denigrated. Virtual signallers abound.
Dreadful murders and accidents every week.
So sorry for this family's bereavement, the loss of a much loved man, but come on! Buff said.
Nuff
I thought I was surprised at your use of virtual (sic) signallers, Naomi...but on reflection maybe not.

You may not have heard of this man but many...so many of us have and have both followed and admired his involvement in this club and in the city of Leicester.
Your thoughts on my use of language, gness, are neither here nor there to me - but gosh, what a terrible mistaka (sic) to make! So much for predictive text. Oh well. So shoot me.
Hey! We had bets on your excuse of predictive text! Go on now, Naomi...have the last word.....I'll let you.......xxx
I know he wasn't the chairman / owner of the club that I support but boy that club Leicester City have had success under that man. He was a very generous man and I can understand the people of Leicester as well as the fans of Leicester City Football Club mourning him as they are.
So no I don't think it is over the top.
Thanks gness. :o)
Actually gness, that's not the first time you've confessed to having bets on me. What a way to spend your time - betting on people's responses on the AnswerBank. Very sad.

Having waited for peoples' responses, and having read all of them, I'm not changing my opinion. Some have responded as though they knew this man personally, or were involved in his affairs, when in fact all that's happened is that most peoples' responses on here are based purely on what they know from press/media articles, so it must all be true, eh?
Obviously there are a number of "Snowflakes" on here who think they have the right to be offended by anything. I'm not ashamed of having an opinion that might differ from others and I have no regrets about posting this thread.
YMB, //I'm not ashamed of having an opinion that might differ from others//

Nor me. I agree with you.
//not sure the media does mush,//
yes emmie it mushes if there is money and sales in it

I wondered at the outpouring of grief - he seems to have been a good man. beeb careful to point out that he might not be seen to the That Great in Thailand.

Clarion by the way reader is in Manchester - and I also wondered if that would happen here. Manx crying public over the death of one or other of the Glazers. [unwanted American imports]
They bought man united with junk bonds - high interest bonds secured on erm Manchester united assets they had acquired. and have as far as we can see - used it as a cash cow
it happens at every funeral doesnt it?

someone says loudly - "wot she wailing like dat for? she hardly knew him. She oudda da will or what?"

( I have been to two funerals ( suicides ) where someone has stood up and said "it was my unhappy duty to tell him as a result of his actions he would never work again" and we ALL thought Christ what is he doing in the pulpit for chrissakes .... ( both lay)) we all sat there stunned.) so things happen to strangers that shock you.
