2018 Melbourne Cup
The race that stops a nation takes place at 0400 hours our time tomorrow morning. I've just spent about half an hour studying the stats for this race, looking for some potential value and i think/hope that i've found one with more of a chance than the bookies give it. The horse is Sir Charles Road and this lightly weighted 5yo ticks quite a few of the trends boxes - right age, recent run, placed last time out, good draw. The main sticking point is that he has yet to win a Group 1 race and the last 14 winners of the cup have done just that. However, i don't expect this one to actually win the race (though it would be quite nice) and, @ 100/1, i don't need him to. Skybet are paying out on 7 places and i do believe this horse will be running on when others have cried 'enough'.
£2.50 e.w. Sir Charles Road @ 100/1 . 2nd - 7th = £53, 1st = £305
Good luck all who are having a bet in this race

Read it earlier, Danny. That's how i knew mine had come 7th :-) As i said, i wasn't really trying to find the winner, just a bit of e.w. value. The fact that an English trained horse has finally won Melbourne's premier horse race is good news, even though it is not English-owned or bred. The 3rd horse Prince Of Arran deserves special mention as it only ran (and won) on Saturday. Maybe next year for that horse?
Well done, too, seekeerz. Must admit to having a long hard look at Prince Of Arran but the fact it had only run 3 days prior did put me off. Some performance in finishing 3rd in such a high profile race. Just watched the video of the race on ATR and, contrary to what i wrote in my opening post, mine was actually fading fast having led with 300m to go - the line coming just in time :-)
Morning Ken well done, you too Seekeerz. I was a little distracted yesterday and missed the thread. "She who must be obeyed" decided that the room with the desktop in it was having the deep clean and tidy treatment. I consequently spent most of the day with the desktop in pieces, outside, removing all the dust and cleaning the fan blades. Looks brand new now mind. Keyboard, mouse, speakers, and monitor all had the same, including the desk and power surge power supply. I am a dust free zone. British 1,2,3.
Lol Ken. I confess it did need sorting. I had promised to tidy up the "office" area months ago, but when I do I like to take the sides front and top off the tower and clean the fan blades and vacuum the heat sinks and loom. Hence I put it off given the slightest excuse. Good for 18 months now. :)) Looks good again, the blue LEDs are strobing the fans just as they should.
