We watched vets programme earlier and he asked a question re how long can cows feed calves. Discussion followed feeding babies. I mentioned how painful it was when you stopped breast feeding and mastitis followed.
I told him the cure I used to stop the pain was cabbage leaves in my bra.
He really laughed at that.
I also used them when I had sore knees, bandaged knees with cabbage leaves inside. I don't think he believed me but it really works.

It's amazing just what scientists will spend time studying, isn't it?

Breast-feeding women sometimes apply cabbage leaves and cabbage leaf extracts to their breasts to relieve swelling and pain. Cabbage leaves are also applied to joints to relieve pain in people with joint pain due to osteoarthritis"

yeah, but that's all with Indian cabbage. Probably not pickled.
If you want to get pickled with cabbages, Jno, you'll need this:

We didn't use cabbage for knees - that was comfrey (Knitbone) but yes, cabbage for mastitis is a well known remedy.

We always had bundles of comfrey leaves drying in the airing cupboard, they would be steeped in boiling water and applied to strain.sprains etc - it grew readily round about.
