In may 2017 I purchased a keyboard from scan which became faulty.
It cost £79.99 at the time. It went faulty and I was asked to send it back for testing.
They agreed that the KB was faulty.
While it was at scan I purchased another keyboard so I could carry on using my PC from Amazon.
I asked if I could either have a credit against other products or a refund.
This is the reply: "Unfortunately we would be unable to exchange it for some SSDs. The warranty replacement would need to be for a like for like item.

If you were to have a refund. We would only be able to refund £51.26 due to the amount of time you have had the item for. Please advise how you wish to proceed.
What are my rights regarding a refund?
Thanks in advance.

They are obliged to repair or replace it with a similar model. You're not entitled to a refund unless they can't do one or the other, so I'd say they are being pretty generous.
£80 for a keyboard? I got one at Morrison's for £10.
How long did you have it before you returned it?
If, as it seems, you have had it for over year the company is acting within the law by offering you a partial refund:

"The Consumer Rights Act 2015 changed our right to reject something faulty, and be entitled to a full refund in most cases, from a reasonable time to a fixed period (in most cases) of 30 days. After that, you lose the short-term right to reject the goods and you'll have fewer rights, such as only being able to ask for a repair or replacement, or a full or partial refund if this doesn't work."

This is assuming that the keyboard wasn't sold with an extended guarantee.
Maybe take the direct replacement and so have a spare.
Spares are often useful.
