I don't know which category to put this in so here goes: I have just switched energy suppliers. The new company are setting up direct debit. The name they have on the account is just mine but our bank account is in joint name with my husband. Is that ok or do they have to have both names? I tried ringing them for clarification but waited ages on the phone before giving up.....not a very good start from their customer services!

I gave them both names. However, the joint account will be an extension of one of your bank accounts. If it is yours or your husbands i do not know, but you do, and that is the name they will need.
It will be fine :)
Absolutely fine, either party can make any transactions on a joint account.

Thank you for your answers. I feel reassured.
No its fine. I've just changed suppliers last month and we have a joint account but the DD has gone through ok.
Actually.. I now specifically remember them saying "it doesn't matter, we just need a name of a card holder" and i said, oh we're both card holders, pop us both down. So i'm sure either or is fine.
