It amazes me that people still go along to these things - can't they remember what happened last year, the year before that, and the year before that, not to mention the year before that.

Nice that you consider the ripped off customers and traders fools - I hope you have a suitable word in mind for the perpetrators of this, which is nothing more than a fraud.

The problem is that there are some very good well-run Christmas events around the country and it can be hard for traders and the general public to sort the wheat from the chaff.

Even 'genuine' event organisers can get caught out if, after they've committed lots of money for premises and advertising, they find that they simply can't get enough stallholders to book spaces, leaving them with half-empty venues.
I suppose if people are willing to buy into the 'true meaning of Christmas' and the suspension of disbelief that's required then getting them to shell out hard cash for dross is easy.

It's why things liken Black Friday still work in this country even when it's a shadow of the original and a complete con from start to finish.

In short, many are gullible.
