When I lived in Yorkshire we had cheese with fruitcake. It was absolutely delicious.
Cheese and fruit cake was introduced to me by my granddad who came from Lincolnshire. I still love it. But only with farmhouse type fruitcake. Preferably a strong Cheddar. I don't like Christmas cake, with or without marzipan or icing.
Never come across it on Tyneside, but as I'm not a fan of Xmas cake I'll just settle for the cheese.
I like cheese, but there is a time & place; and it ain't with desserts nor sweet cakes. Fine to try all sorts of weird things for a novelty, I, myself, have bought cheese with fruit, such as cranberry or pineapple in it, for the experience, but... well come on; Xmas cake ???
Never tried this, but I know I'd like it.
