Hearing Aids

I have some new Modus NHS hearing aids. They whistle really loudly. I've been back but the problem persists.
I'm thinking about about going private. Anyone recommend anything?

I think that you will find that any hearing-aid (NHS or private) with a high gain ie large amplification will whistle, particularly if the ear-mould isn't fitting/placed properly. So, IMO, you may still have the problem even with private aids. I'd go back to the audiology dept. to explain the problem....my dept. is very good at solving problems like this.

Mine whistles if I cup my hand over my ear, I just turn the volume down.

My new NHS opicon only whistles when volume is too high.Stay NHS. I have had private and they used the same hearing aid unless I wanted to pay silly money for a Siemens.

My mate's MIL has just paid £3k for a pair.

The problem of whistling can frequently lie not in the aid, but in a badly fitting earpiece, which should be a very snug fit.

If the volume is too high and upon lowering you still cannot hear clearly, then you do need to return to your audiology clinic and explain the problem.
Try them out once adjusted before leaving, walking around the clinic listening and having a conversation with someone.
