//now and again. And again. And again. //

Remind me(as if I need it) who repeats himself more than an echo in loop mode? Especially after imbibing more than is good for the rest of us.
Yeah, but it’s not about me me me. Is it.
I was also in the Royal Marines, but don’t tell anybody. Our little secret.
thanks togo.

Thanks for your responses. I guess the underlying issue is as stated by the first two posts. When do you legislate against self-harming ?

Well, for example, we legislate against promoting smoking and to a lesser extent betting (especially for the young). So why not boxing?
best suggestion I've heard is to ban gloves.
off the top of my head, a list of sports that are potentially deadly ...
boxing
motor racing
skiing
football
cricket
rugby
... i've just realised, the list is endless

sorry but they do it for prestige, money, for the sporting element, just because you don't like it doesn't mean it should be banned. I happen to like boxing, have done ever since we use to go and watch amateur matches at the local town hall. Yes people get hurt, yes you can die, but so do rugby, football players and plenty more besides.

Yes, I agree, other sports are dangerous, but the aim in those is not to physically bash the opponent into submission, even unconsciousness.

That's what is barbaric IMHO.
you don;t like it fair enough, but millions do and pay good money to watch it.
Question Author
I would be interested to know exactly what it is that you like about it emmie (which can't be provided by any other sport).
How much money do you need to risk brain damage or death? Boxers get paid millions, and so do Formula 1 drivers. They've all got plenty of money and don't need to do it. Is the adrenaline rush that attractive? I suppose it must be.
the risks have been greatly eliminated in F1, as also in cricket and rugby, in various ways; administrators recognise that injury is an unfortunate by-product and try to prevent it happening. Boxing is still a sport where you're supposed to hurt your opponent. (Hence the suggestion for banning gloves: you'd be less keen to batter your opponent to death if you knew you were going to break your own knuckles doing it.)
i do like it, and watch whenever i can, i love watching Nicola Adams in the ring, its a craft like no other, full of
vim, energy, its hard to say more, i like other sports like rugby which usually entails clashing bodies, heads and can be very aggressive.
He's Haitian. Probably would have had a more barbaric and shorter life without boxing.
Thought you'd like boxing, canary. Not many boxers start out rich.
