Morning kayakamina and endanger: I am assuming that "not wanting" is OFF (in accordance with Chambers). "Pop Off" is also given as "to fall asleep".

"POP OFF" it is then - another scalp for k (you're working well this morning!)

I still think that the jury is out on this answer ----

if something is popular .... you give it the 'nod'

i don't like an answer that effectively (pop) includes a word from the question (popular)

Popular music is pop music. You may give something popuar the nod but in no way can you say popular = nod as you can with pop. Pandabear may think the jury is out but pop off is the correct answer and confirmed by Chambers dictionary as above.
