..............from O God Our Help In Ages Past, at the Remembrance Sunday service at The Cenotaph?

Time like an ever rolling stream
Bears all it's sons away
They fly forgotten as dream
Dies at the op'ning day

It left me slightly baffled as it would seem to be the most poignant verse in the hymn for this occasion. Having said that, I know there are three other verses that are rarely used when this hymn is sung, as it originally had nine verses.

Perhaps because they're not forgotten as a dream. Just a guess, but at a Remembrance service, that would seem logical.
I don't know. When I was a church organist it was always sung.

I can see that, Naomi. I thought that too. It might seem a slight contradiction, but the verse is sung at lots of other services. Thanks JD.
I really think it's because the service is specifically one of remembrance.

I think you're correct, Naomi.
the Queen Mother did not like it used because her brother Fergus was killed in the war but I think they sang it this year
Maybe for the same reason that the verse in the National Anthem about crushing rebellious Scots is omitted.
