It seems that self drive cars are "routinely in accidents" - is society rushing these death traps into service with indecent haste?

i believe they are, but i don't drive and won't be getting in one any day soon.
regular cars also have accidents because of "poor behaviour by operators" (and by mechanical failure). Any comparative figures?
You would expect them to be routinely in accidents until they are not anymore. Is that not the process of testing and developing?

If they made them and could not replicate an accident or find an issue, that would be a cause for concern. Then, the accidents would be found more in real life situation than at the test facility.

Covering them up ? I have no idea.
you can't improve software without finding out where it's failing. These accents are those discoveries.
The mere fact thaat Vuxhall have christened their pre-production model the Brexit should be enough info to assure us that they'll never happen. :-)
Aren't manually driven cars in regular accidents?

yes but that's not the point, driverless cars are supposed to replace our flawed drivers are they not? I'm illustrating that is a long long way off. The hardware is pretty good, sensors way off, software, light years away.
in my industry, it's not self-driving that's exercising minds, but decarbonisation (not carbon reduction). like autonomous technology, alternative fuels are not yet advanced enough to be put into service, even experimentally. the guy leading the hydrogen fuel project is under no illusions as to the problems he faces - his work is known as "Project Kerboom".....

Not only that, but they are suppose to help traffic flow, help keep track of traffic reports and incidents and of course, ease.

The big question is can you drink and driverless car home? If not.. Then what's the point.. If so, then surely driverless cars have to over ride potential user error? IE, the words "Take me home" should lock the doors, and take the person home with no ability for them to override the self drive.
