I have just paid 20 to Orange to increase my speed from 1mb to 2mb and they have sent me an e-mail to confirm it has changed however it is still showing 1mb. Does it take a while for it to happen. I could ring them but they won't speak to me as it is in my husband's name even though he knows nothing about computers and leaves it all to me.

You would need to disconnect and reconnect,
BTW it may take a few days

Just out of interest how much do you pay for your Orange
Broadband connection (incl Orange phone), Do you still pay
for your BT line rental ?
Question Author
Thank you. I don't have an orange phone. I pay 17.99 to Orange which was Freeserve and still use BT for the line rental. When you say to disconnect and reconnect, what exactly do you mean, and what does BTW stand for. I am no computer expert as you can tell!!
by the way
Do the speed test here:
http://www.ookla.com/speedtest/

The download speed should be around the 2000 mark once it's at 2MB speed. note that the 2MB isn't guaranteed, as it does depend on other factors (contention ratio, quality of line, etc.).
I would be surprised if you got near the 2000 mark. That's the absolute maximum. Fo3nix is right, it does depend on a lot of factors.

I have a 2mb BT connection and I only got 773 on the download test.
I left Orange(or Wanadoo as they were then) due to poor customer service regarding my line.they didnt even know what line i had which was the last straw !
