Assuming AC is knighted 'for services to cricket', he'll be the first England player thus knighted for over 20 years. (Ian Botham was knighted 'for services to charity').

While it's a welcome decision, it's difficult to see how such judgements are made. Michael Vaughan (OBE) was a far better skipper and Jimmy Anderson (OBE) has contributed at least as much to the England cricket team as AC has done.

Point taken, Chris. I think Vaughan is thought too gobby, and Anderson will have to wait till he retires - or at least he should do. I think all sportsmen should be honoured in this way only when they retire.
Anyway, Cook actually achieved something, and it makes a change from SIR Rod Stewart and SIR Ringo ruddy Starr!
