Don't You Just Love The Royal Mail?
31 Answers
I know. It's a busy time for them but I received a card today addressed to someone who lives at the same house number and street as me but unfortunately they live 220 miles in Winchester. I live in Middleton, they live in Littleton. I live in Manchester, they live in Winchester. I live in Lancs, they live in Hants. Wouldn't you think someone at the Southampton or Manchester sorting office might have asked a question or two? They only just missed the letterbox by 220 miles. Don't you just love the Royal Mail?

My Dad was thrilled when the Postcodes came in, but still they had great posers to solve - envelopes addressed to 'Auntie Mabel' Nr the butchers shop, Westhoughton for example got through with some detective work.
At this time of year they set a little room aside to rewrap torn parcels and even repair broken toys that had been poorly packaged.

Thanks for the replies. I just love the all-knowing, presumptious people on AB. Just to be clear on this;
The envelope was clearly written for an address in Winchester. There was no postcode. Have you recieved any cards/letters without postcodes at all? Ever? If there was no postcode, how did it find it's way to Manchester when it was clearly addressed to Winchester, Hants? For all you lovely, saintly, precious, caring, thoughtful AB'ers, I've already posted it back but had opened it before I noticed the address on the front, so I've put it in a larger envelope, inside it's original envelope. And guess what? I googled the postcode for the address and put that on. I assume it will get to the right address. Your adorable Royal Mail permitting.

From my experience it makes no difference whatsoever if the postcode is on! I frequently get letters for a street with a similar name to mine, but obviously with a different postcode and the postcode is always on ! The lady who lives there, often gets my letters too, but it has happened so many times now, we just readdress and place them back in the post box. Both of us have written several times to the PO complaining with the result that they 'take our complaints very seriously and everything is being done to ensure this never happens again'. But it does !
I have a package here for a house 2 streets away. Postcode is on the package.
I had a package delivered recently and the postman didn't even knock on the door. I have a porch and he/she just opened the door, that I don't mind, but then they opened the second door and left the package in my hall. I'm sitting here on my own, they could be any kinda psycho!
