The toe nail was badly bruised it has now fallen off. Is a new nail likely to grow? There doesn't seem to be a replace ment yet.

In general they do grow back over a few months.
Good job it's only the nail crosspatch;-)
should do, but might take a while. I had the ingrown bit of a nail removed and it was the best part of a year before it fully recovered.
I once had an ingrown toenail removed. It was a month before I could wear ordinary shoes, and in that time a new nail had started to grow.
Be patient. The new nail is there and will appear in due course.

I badly bruised my little toe nail and it came off. The nail has grown back but as suggested earlier it took a few months.
When my father was in the Royal Navy he took off his socks one night and shook out ten toenails. They never regrew.
I lost a nail after dropping an old and very heavy record player on my foot a few year ago. It grew back fine.
great toe nail takes a year to grow from rooty thing (lunula) to top

looks a bit ugly while it does so - but no one is gonna suck it or anything are they?
Yes. Both of my big toe nails went black and fell off after I climbed Kilimanjaro (it was my coming down the mountain that did it) and they both grew back
