5 Answers
Hi,
Does any one know where I can get a cheap CD ROM to re-install Windows XP and all the drivers on my Toshiba S1400-253S, I don't really want to gfo to Tosh as I dare say they will charge a fortune.I recently bought the laptop form Computer fair, it has a XP Professional Certificate on the bottom, but Win 98 installed, so I want XP on it.I have had a look on e-bay but nothing there.
Any one got one they don't need?
Thanks
Steve

The parallel option requires a special "NULL MODEM" cable - obtainable from PC world
You set up a Direct Cable Connection

If you have a licence, and you seem to, buying a 'pirate' copy of XP is legal. You should be able to get one for a few on ebay.
A problem could arise in that the code you'll have is for an OEM version, licenced to Toshiba. It will be no good getting an OEM CD that isn't a Toshiba one, the code won't work. I don't know whether a Toshiba code will enable a retail version. At least, all the forgoing used to be true on W2000, never tried it on XP (which has the online/phone registration), so I could be wrong.

Thanks for the Replies, I had a COMPAQ XP Proffesional CD ROM, so tried installing that,Installed fine, it didn't say anything about compaq, it took the code that I entered that was on the bottom of the laptop, but when I tried to activate the code, it said the code was invallid, I would have thought that since it was a Compaq XP CD ROM that it was an OEM version, so was a bit supprised.
Bit if I can get hold of a set Of Tosh Install CD's, I think that will do the trick, and it will have all the drivers on it as well.So just need to find one.
