Looking back, some of the ghosts I remember, are:-
Steve McQueen in The Great Escape.
Charlie Chaplin very early Xmas morning.
The circus on BBC Xmas afternoon.
(Only a few channels in those days.)
The Epilogue.
BBC Closing down at around 11pm then playing God Save the Queen. Then watching the white dot on screen shrinking.
Family favourites on the radio. The smell of cabbage cooking from numerous kitchens. All shops closed for the duration. Compassion and tolerance more discernible.
My parents and grandparents would always go to the pub for a couple of hours Christmas morning and leave me home all alone (from the age of about 11, would be seriously frowned on now) and all there was on TV was some celebrity visiting a children's hospital - anyone remember that?
Tangerines being in a box of six and fighting with little brother for the one in the wrapper, I thought of this only yesterday when I bought satsumas from the fruit'n'veg place and picked lots with wrappers on! We also fought for the green Penguin, not just at Christmas but all year round!
