Since we lost Mikey I haven't listened to The Archers at all. I so enjoyed his comments about the programme, it isn't the same any more. I notice no-one else comments about it either.
Does anyone else share my views?

I'm a bit of a lurker on here but I'm popping my head up to agree with you. I used to enjoy Mikey's comments. I am a regular Archers listener though I sometimes wonder why ... habit I suppose!
I also agree, I never miss the Archers and enjoyed joining in with Mikey's threads. My knowledge of the characters & history though is nowhere near enough as good as his. You'd need big Archer's wellies to take over his threads.
I remember my parents listening to that show in the late '40s. Fortunately for me it wasn't on at the same time as The Goon Show:)
Well, the language in The Archers has certainly deteriorated this last week. Lines uttered include "*ydoolb* ramblers; *dos* the rehearsal; hairy *esra*; bottom-kissing" (you need to read the letters between *'s backwards). As if farmers would use such foul language!!!

On the upside though I am glad that Geraldine has left Lower Loxley as I find that actress incapable of acting with any credibility - Bharti Patel who also is in Doctors as Ruhma Hanif/Carter.

Oh yes, another thing, even the Grundys could not be mad enough to try emptying an over loaded chemical toilet using a muck spreader and not expect the muck to spread?
sanmac, you had amazing hearing as a child. The programme didn't air until 1950.
Thanks choux, I almost checked that, I reckon sanmac's parents were more likely listening to Mrs Dale's Diary
Very welcome, Prudie. I remember the pilot was broadcast in 1950 and The Archers went nationwide in 1951. We females have superior knowledge ;)
You're right, choux: It would have been early to mid '50s. For some reason, after all those years, I still remember the signature tune...If it's still the same one that is.
It is but it might be played with bagpipes!
I have never listened to the Archers but I do miss Mikey and his Wee Willy.

"1/2 Queen of Ambridge amateur theatricals, Lynda Snell, takes charge of this barnstorming new adaptation of Chaucer’s classic tales. Join the cast of The Archers to enjoy stories of courtly love, deadly rivalry and boisterous sex - with a little bit of magic thrown in for good measure.

“A festive feast of spellbinding stories and bawdy banter … Another Lynda Snell triumph!” – The Borchester Echo"

I rather enjoyed it and there is a lot less violence than in the t.v. soaps ;)
