In recent years, I've been using a black glass arcoroc to cover the top of jugs in the microwave when cooking beans, soup etc. I'm concerned that one day, I'll break the plate. What do you clever ABers use for the purpose? I'm not one to play about with cling film as it's too fiddly in my view and not all film is microwave safe. Besides, it would cost a fortune in the long term. A template is too too large for the job. I dont really want to buy and specialised microwave containers as I'm happy with pyrex and plastic jugs. I just want something to cover the jug safely. Thank you.

You warm plates for meals ?
I use plastic pots and lift one corner off...

Baz....do you not warm plates?
for a hot meal, Bazile, it does help it stay hot a little longer.
Kitchen roll or a plastic top from another container.
It's a bit of a pain carrying them to the table though.
ummmm
No -I dress for meals though :-)
I don't always warm them. Mainly when I have people for dinner. Me and the OH are really slow slow eaters so we're used to eating cold food.
My dad insists on a warmed plate when he's here. I don't bother otherwise.
I use a lidded Pyrex dish for heating beans as they have a tendency to explode, I don’t cover anything else though. And I never heat plates.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I agree that most stuff can go in a microwave without a cover on the container, but as some have said, baked beans can make a hell of a mess on the walls of the oven. Thats why I prefer to use glass containers. Many plastics stain permanently with baked bean sauce and I'd like to continue to use a pyrex jug.
Why on earth would you use a microwave oven?
I keep one plastic M/W pan (with lid) for beans - it may always be orange but I know it's clean.
Why on earth wouldn't you? Ideal for heating things like beans, soup etc, making custard. You don't have to watch it as things don't boil over if you're called away (so long as you've set it properly).
I don't cook meals from scratch in the microwave but it's invaluable for reheating casseroles, soups, sauces etc and for defrosting and reheating what I call "Blue Peter" meals i.e. ones I made earlier and in bulk.
