My statement was self-qualifying by citing Paris as somewhere which was, according to the press, being ransacked and by far the worst of the protests. I was pointing out the absurdity of Spath's OP's last sentence.
We went to the USA in 1981 when the Toxteth riots were happening. According to the US newspapers the entire country was ablaze. You can't believe everything (perhaps anything) that you read in the papers.
