I am in a dispute with a mobile phone company over a few bills I dont believe I owe because they never told me I had to cancel my contract myself. Meanwhile, they are pestering me for the money which I wont pay until I have been through their complaints process. Can this harm me? Will my credit rating be badly affected?

Pay the bill, you will find they have you stitched up in the contract. It will cause you no harm as long as it doesnt go to court. You will find the same with all the mobile phone contracts, you have to cancell them youself or they continue to run, always been the same mate.
Agree with ratter. If they thought for one moment that you were right they would have backed down by now and probably sent you some tokens. Pay the bill and protect your rating.
Or

Put a "Notice of Correction" on your credit file - and explain that you are in dispute with the mobile phone company and that all your other agreements are running normal.

you can get info about NOCs at www.experian.co.uk and www.equifax.co.uk
