My wife is looking at trench coats on eBay and some Aquascutum coats are listed as 'new with tags'.
Closer inspection shows the sewn in label has the Queen Mother's Royal Warrant so the coat was obviously made before 2005.

Can these coats really be described as 'new'?

If they are claiming them to be unworn, then I imagine they can say they are 'new' and not 'used'.
there isnt an option on ebay (except i the description) to describe something other than "new with tags, new without tags or used"
so new with tags seems to be the oly one this would fit into

One of them even has the price tag in the listing :)

Could be moth eaten after all these years. Should 'very old but unworn' be an option for the listing?
That's more a question for EBay really, perhaps it should.

Ha! My wife asked the seller of the coat with the price tags on when she bought it and the reply - last year :)

Funny thing the seller is asking a lot more than what she paid
Buyer beware I guess, her choice to risk it or not.
hc, looks as if Aquascutum is still selling them now with the Queen Mother's Warrant in them. This is new from the official website.

Sorry you need to click along to the 6th picture.
buyers on eay are strange. I sold a second hand barbour jacket that went for more than they are to buy new. I felt rather bad at the end, as i had paid £40 for it about 2 years previously (from my brother in law who it didnt fit) and in the bidding it went for £120

That's not the Queen Mother's Warrant - the warrant lapses on the death of the grantor but can be used for up to two years after.

You did well with the Barbour!
Ok thanks hc, I've learnt something new. Is that their logo I can see then?
Yes, that's their logo.
Unworn with tags is in “new” condition
