Why is nature much further ahead than human intelligence?

The breakthrough by Craig Venter this week in creating an artificial cell has been applauded by the scientific community. This was only a small step in creating a cell and only emphasises how little we know about the complexity of life.

Does it not prove that life never arose by accident or randomness?

Evolution carries an element of chaos, in that life comprises so many interconnected processes that the result of a single DNA mutation, although totally deterministic, might as well be random in many cases.

Weather systems grow and fade over a few days; climate change over decades, maybe centuaries. That's not even a blink of an eye on the evolutionary timescale.
