That’s a question I’ve been asking for a very long time, webbo – most recently on a thread concerning physical mutilation – on that occasion met with an equally flippant response as that from Johnk (above) from one of the more caring (allegedly) of our number. Just where are organisations like #MeToo when they’re needed?

If segregation is illegal, can we assume there are now no boys' school nor girl's schools ? Different sittings at lunch isn't uncommon, but it seems bad practice to have a gender split. It gives the impression that maybe one gender is considered a priority over the other. The system needs updating to avoid such misunderstandings.

OG, this isn’t a misunderstanding. Women in many Muslim households wait until the men have finished eating before they eat.

There is no place for faith schools in my mind. Make most forms of educational segregation illegal except where children with special needs would benefit from education with their peers or would impact negatively on the education of classmates. Remove the option of home schooling as well. Ensure all children are thereby seen outside of their home setting. Hopefully this'll also help identify children at risk of abuse as well as radicalisation. Sometimes an extreme approach is needed to effect positive change.

But, the report is about a Muslim school.
