SWMBO has just shown me an obituary (not my rush to reading usually) in today's Times of a man called Roy Dean. I expect you will all have heard of him. Not least because he holds the record for the fastest ever solving of a Times crossword. 3 minutes and 45 seconds!!!! The whole puzzle!
That's about the same as my personal best for solving three clues. But I thought some of you (and I know you they are) might regard it as a challenge.....

Thanks for that, steven. I'd never heard of this super-speedy solver. I won't take his record as a challenge - just as well as I'd definitely fail - because I like to enjoy, admire, even moan about the clues!
Thanks for this, Steven - I hope you don't mind, but as his obituary in the Times is behind a paywall, I've asked a friend to send it to me & should anyone wish to read it, have linked to it here -
I am being allowed another tea break from the essay so I looked back to see if anyone had picked up on this. Of course , you had!!
As people said, he had an interesting life, didn't he?
But it's the speed solver that really wowed me. And, I have to say, SWMBO, no cruciverbalist (sorry Tuvok) herself!
