I think 'we' as a society don't expect that, but the Twitface goons with their over-develped sense of self-righteousness, minority though they are, make a lot of noise, and we should never confuse a volume of noise with the weight of the majority opinion, they are almost always opposite to each other, and they are here as well.

You need to make at least *some* allowance for the fact that racial issues in the US are far more sensitive topics than they are over here, primarily for historical reasons.

I of course agree with the principle that actions years ago when people were young and, presumably, not quite so well-known ought to be allowed to have mistakes in their past -- especially so if there's little evidence that those didn't carry forward into their future lives and careers.

What a load of cobblers! No-one can change history. Lots of people today think they have the right to be insulted about anything. Last weekend on TV, there was a film called The Cowboys starring, guess who? Yep, John Wayne. In the film a black guy takes charge of a group of boys, and he is openly referred to as a
n*****. That was in the 70's too. I was surprised it hadn't been dubbed over by some snowflake or other.
But that was then and this is now. Reaction to those type of things brings about change but no-one can change the past. Get over it.
