Flightradar

I`ve noticed rectangular blocks appearing on the flightradar maps and when clicking on them, it says they are airport ground vehicles. How long have they been on there. Never seen it before and wondering why they are there. I`m not a Spotter - I just heard a plane take off in the distance and reckoned it was a 747 and wanted to see which one.
