Rescuing A Cat From A Tree - With A Difference
18 Answers
As Cat people will know - a Cat is a Cat regardless of size. Give a Lion or Tiger a cardboard box and they will be happy to play with them.
I think that there is a Lion trying to trash my flat as I type. How can one 5.7kg moggie make so much noise?

I don't know how he got up there but he was there for about 3 days and nights. The fire brigade didn't want to know and my Dad sure as hell wasn't too worried about it because he was brought up on a farm so wasn't worried about a cat - he had many other animals to worry about. The woman whose cat it was blamed my Dad for the fact that the cat was on our roof. Eventually, someone managed to put a ladder up and as soon as they did that, the bloody cat got down on it's own.
237SJ - many people seem to still think of cats as vermin.
I admit that they are contrary and frustrating creatures but they are much more intelligent than they let on. Well, apart from the late Princess Merlin who was both stupid and vicious. I miss her.
My dad had to rescue our cat, Shaka, from the roof of the house next door on a regular basis but it was easily done with just a short(ish) ladder. We had to rescue him as he had a rather powerful Meow.

My dearest grandfather disliked cats immensely until after 40 years of marriage my grandmother ignored his protest and got one.
Well I have never seen a man crumble the way that man did in the presence of a kitten!
That can became the most spoilt looked after cat ever, when she eventually passed away he built a shrine to her and mourned her the rest of his life I believe more than he mourned when my nana died!

Your dad appreciated them. Some farm cats have really good lives. (I didn't mean to infer that your dad thought badly of them).
The thread of the other day about a dead cat found on someone's drive was disconcerting https:/ /www.th eanswer bank.co .uk/Law /Questi on16464 52.html
Some of the folk there really hate cats. Even if a person is not an animal lover you would think that they might understand how a cat slave would feel on being told that their cat was dead. And then being told it was only a cat.

Kittens are adorable looking. How anything so tiny and fragile can possibly be blamed for shredding wallpaper, climbing curtains and all the other lies.
I think that cats are just misunderstood.
I missed my dogs and cats more than my parents when they all died (at different times).
Is there a way to shut up a screaming cat?

My Gran had a chicken shed at the end of the meadow and a stray cat lived in there. One day, the cat had three kittens. I loved the kittens. They were truely ferral and spat and hissed at me when I went to see them. One day I went up to the shed and the kittens were gone and so was the cat. My Gran had wrung the cat's neck and drowned the kittens. Country people can be really hard.
I think that the attitude to cats has changed over the years. I don't know how old you are (I'm 55) and when I was young many kittens were killed that way - not just country folk. Neutering cats was rarely considered and cats are pretty good at breeding.
I know that many people dislike cats (I understand how annoying they can be) but I doubt whether our cat-hating AB members would harm a cat.
They just don't understand that cats are fascinating, they manipulate us and if they don't get pampered and fed well at home they just move out and move into another home.
I must admit to loving dogs too - big dogs, preferably with a little bit of German Shepherd in the mix somewhere.
I think that I may go and give Frankie his medication - it is not an easy task. ☻
When I was a kid, many years ago,a friends family had a large Cherry tree.Everything was OK till they got some new neighbours who had a cat that kept getting stuck up the tree which was quite badly damaged by their kids climbing up to "rescue"it.My mates dad got fed up with this so one day he rescued the cat with his 12 Bore.
paddy - once upon a time, way back in the dark ages that would, maybe, have been a solution.
But can you imagine the uproar if folk did that today? Actually, if anyone did that to wee Frankie I would cheerfully kill them.
RR - at least I can put Frankie's endless chatter down to him being an old boy (14 in June), you have many more years of endless screaming. ☺☺
This is how the Russians deal with cats up trees. It looks too brutal but the cat runs off with no problem.

Paddy, I discovered that, until relatively recently, that Cats were not given pain medication by vets after operations.
We have much to learn about our furry family, you have been lucky enough to have a GSD - they are amazing as Police Dogs. Big and snarly when at work and big soft puppies at home, they are able to comprehend the difference between being at work and being off-duty.
Cats are manipulators, they are natural bullies(they able to get their human to do something using various means) fierce fighters, intelligent, lazy, sly, smug, and self-centred (and amazingly annoying). I do miss having a dog though.
