Spanish Nhs

Well pleased today. I need a bunion operation done and today had a 2nd.consultation with the orthopeadic surgeon, x ray, blood test, consultation with anathaesiologist (spelling ?) all within 3 hours with the Spanish NHS. Should be done in March. Pretty good.

Inferior foreign lot, the NHS (UK) would see to the first consultation within 3 months.......and the second another three months, etc. You would never see the results of x-ray or any tests unless you insisted on them. You should be through the entire process within 18 months. That's how superior systems work and it is going to get even better from the end of next month.

I had very much the same with orthopaedics with the NHS UK this time last year, also included a consultation with a pharmacist. Operation followed a month later. It's standard practice with operations requiring general anaesthetic. Was told to allow up to three hours. Ran like clockwork!

sam....thank you for that post, as what does aggravate me is that Brits think that the only healthcare in the world is the NHS and go on to denigrate other health care systems.
Yes.....the NHS does provide good care, but unfortunately not nationally and the variation is marked.
I cannot speak for the whole of Spain, but I have had excellent care in the Balearic Islands.

My wife currently does not know what is wrong, never mind what will be done if anything and is expecting as much as six months before anything is done (NHS UK), this after repeated GP visits and prescriptions for anti-inflammatories. Her knee condition severely restricts her mobility.

I hope the chance of post operative infections is lower in Spain than Britain .

Sqad is correct. I think that the system varies regionally in the UK. I have been lucky. I have no experience or knowledge of other European countries.

I posted some info on my spinal operation I had a few weeks ago
which went pretty well but the bowl problem 3 days after getting home left a lot to be desired
The wife called the ambulance as I was in great pain , when they arrived I told the two young girls the problem as I lay on top of the bed sweating like hell with pain , they said they would get some one to bring a serpositry around they couldn't take me to hospital just for being constipated anyway the chap arrived ,I manage to get to the toilet but dropped it in the toilet trying to install it , returned to the bedroom and told him what happened and he said try and do it from the front and I told him I just could not do it as I was told not to bend to much on account of the stitchs after the operation , so he did it for me laying on the bed with the two girls watching saying I gave it a good stir that should do the job Anyway they said a nurse would be around to check all is well (I'm still waiting)
When they left us I laid on the bed for another 6 hours in terrible pain this upset the wife before anything happened
People tell me I should have been taken back to hospital having just had a spinal operation and my age being 86 ,but when you get to our age you don't want to be a bother to anybody ,and it turned out ok in the end
