Will the tax man catch up
3 Answers
My estranged husband has now been self employed for three years. About 4months into this he took on more work and had to employ some people 1 or 2 on books and he paid due amount for tax and ins. The problems really began when he could not get anyone to go through books for few hours a week and so gave casual wages no tax or ins either deducted or paid. This happened again last year and again this year (seasonal work). Although I don't know for certain I think he has been earning enough to be liable for VAT so that is yet another problem. In all of this he has not paid tax other than for legal employees...he has just buried his head in sand...he thinks a drink ..and another drink....makes it all look better....now as far as I am aware cocaine is helping to create a better picture for him......I feel so sorry and have grieved sorely for the wonderful husband I used to have and although I know now we will never be again I just wish I could help him.

Sometimes a tax man can take 20 years or more to catch up, I know as I sorted out someones tax affairs like this many years ago as a young ACA.
The Inland Rev were quite decent about it, as long as you pay up!, otherwise it's a Lester Piggott for you.
It is hard to get people to face reality and why should you?, I am not sure. Leave it to professionals to sort out others people affaiirs
