How is the NHS funded?

Does anyone know, in simple English, how the NHS is funded?

It is funded by our income tax payments.

and NI payments. If you are self employed you pay class 4 NI. Thats 8% of you're profits after everything has been deducted. Stealth tax!!!!!

Eejit - that goes towards pensions, unemployment benefits, maternity benefits and sick pay.

Tax and NI actually all go in one big pot - they'd like us to think it pays for different things but in reality it doesn't - its just a way of making us pay more tax!

Do you never listen to Prime Minister's question time - they Government keep banging on about how much they have put into the NHS!

Not only income tax and employees NI, but also corporate tax on the profist made by businesses and the employers' NI contributions. Its all one big pot, carved up by Gordon to the different departments who submit expenditure plans. Bit like doing the household budget, but on a grand scale.

The answer to this is- badly!
Waste , waste and more waste. Endless admin assistants, committees, reorganistaions and accountants(great).
All governmment money is put into one great pot and the Chancellor divies it up in the way to get the most votes, as is the case with a two party stae.
All these taxes are not hypothenated, otherwise it would be chaoes. Different tax names are just a way of spreading the burden ever wider ever higher. Such is the cost of living in a (relatively ) civilised country.
