A paramedic friend of mine is urging everybody to carry a tampon. If you have been stabbed, just whack open the tampon and plug the wound. The same if you come across a stabbing victim.

alot of the points made above - based on 'er what good would it do?' - and yup started off with FA tmt of bullet wounds.

I would do the usual of - 'firm pressure'
and predict onlookers helping with "oo look blood everywhere - you gonna die from some blood disease yeah? I wouldnt do that etc"

I met a builder's clerk of the works who had taken a chain saw to his left hand - and then taken photos of the damage which he would only show to the hardiest.
