I have just bought a smart cover for my ipad 2, when I close the case it goes to sleep but when I open it again it is supposed to wake but it is locked. Any suggestions why this is?

Do you mean it asks for a code to get in?

My brothers ipad 2 wakes when the cover is opened - he doesn't have a code on his.

I don't need a code but I have to swipe it to unlock, I thought it was supposed to go back to where you were

And when you swipe will take you back to were you where?

You have to do this - First, go to Settings > General and turn "iPad Cover Lock/Unlock" on. To turn your case into a Smart Cover, simply cut the magnetic tape to 1 inch less the height of your case. Then, center and stick the tape on the side of the case that meets the magnetic side (right) of your iPad (if that makes any sense).
